Wedding flowers… where to begin?

Congratulations, you’re engaged !!!! Now what to do?

Some of you might love a venue that you have your heart set on, so you book it. There may be a photographer you’ve heard about, then there is the dress, oh and the flowers……Dont forget the flowers!

How do you begin to narrow down your inspiration? Which flowers look best with your wedding theme, chosen colour palette and style? It can get very overwhelming.

I’ve loved being on this journey as a florist with many brides, from the planning and the beginning of their vision of the special day, to bringing it all together. Having a one on one consultation to discuss and communicate what you as a bride want, is so important. Trust your florist to give their professional guidance in flower choice, style and all the in’s and out’s so you dont have to stress about it.

It can take a bit of time and effort to decide wether youre going all out to create something “wow” or you may be leaning towards something still beautiful but slightly conservative. Once you decide your weddings style; Black Tie, Formal, Semi Formal, Cocktail, Elegant, Rustic, Country Garden, (see where i am going here) the flowers you choose will come from this and compliment this theme. Doing some research and looking at wedding flowers ideas and pictures will be valuable as a starting point. But remember, there are filters used on images online, they could be out of your season and unavailable, too costly etc, so be flexible and again, allow your florist to guide you here.

Where can flowers feature in your wedding day?

THE BOUQUET
Of course your bouquet is your number one floral feature. So if you’ve chosen your gown and ceremony setting, now is the ideal time to select your bouquet so it  harmonises with your wedding style, theme and setting. For example, you might have chosen a Black Tie Formal wedding theme, so an elegant flower choice would definitely be roses. A great place to start.

You might have a Boho wedding theme, where your dress is exactly that, the theme is relaxed, and your bouquet might be very natural and loose in style, with an eclectic mix of dried pieces and feature flowers. OR you might add an option of a flower crown.

Or it might be an outdoor wedding where its set in a garden in a marquee, garden, cocktail style. Your bouquet might be full of seasonal florals, very Spring like, mixed colour palette and lush and fresh.

Reception floral styling

There are some beautiful venues that can cater for all different styles of weddings, that are incredible to decorate with florals and bring YOUR chosen style and theme to life.

Venues such as St Edwards Of The Riverina  https://www.stedwards.com.au/a-homepage-section/

Magpies nest Wagga https://magpiesnestwagga.com/weddings-functions/

Newly refurbished The Wild Vine Vineyard https://www.thewildvine.com.au/w-e-d-d-i-n-g-s

Beautiful restored Big Springs Homestead https://bigspringshomestead.com.au

These are  just a few to list….i could go on. There are surrounding small towns that also can offer a woolshed style venue or that reception place with a view.

Table centrepieces, that contain flowers can add that extra dimension with their beautiful fragrance and colour. Ultimately the best flowers for wedding centrepieces for your wedding will be those that complement your bridal bouquet and wedding colours. Wedding table flower decoration ideas such as floral installations hanging above can look stunning as well, and they have the added benefit of being unobtrusive.  Wedding floral centerpieces add beauty and a splash of colour and again will compliment your style.

At this current time, your wedding may be looking more intimate and smaller, and it may be more cost effective for you to set your theme up in such venue, with simply one large feature arrangement on the bar, or entrance, rather than down tables.

ON YOUR ARCH
Wedding arch flowers for your ceremony are a lovely addition to an outdoor wedding. The arrangement can help to define your space and provide a focal point, and show instantly what your style or chosen theme is.

Remember there will be plenty of photographs being taken here, so why not make this very special.

To Bring meaning here, you could get someone in the family to hand craft the Arbor/Backdrop and then florals can compliment it.

Then you have other areas that could include flowers like:

Buttonholes, corsages for the ladies in your family, wearables like flower crowns, and of course the Cake.

So yes, this can all be a little overwhelming, but rest assure, once you have your colour chosen, or a style, everything else will fall into place. Itll be blooming beautiful.
